Trial adjourned in robbery case
Manama
The trial of two men accused of theft was yesterday again adjourned until October 7 for review. The duo is accused of stealing the handbag of a British woman in Juffair in the night of June 13 this year. Aged 31 and 38, the suspects, who were serving as security officers, are said to have attacked the woman from behind and pulled away with her bag containing BD10 as well as an iPhone. The woman suffered bruises in the assault, but she single-handedly solved the case.
According to court files, her phone was having an application designed to give the location of the phone in case it went missing or stolen. She used the application that guided her to the whereabouts of the mobile, which was in a mobile shop.
"When I met the owner of the shop, I requested from him the CPR copy of the person who sold the phone. I took it to police," the woman said. The pair was later apprehended and admitted to commit the robbery, and also told prosecutors that they stole two other bags in the same night.
"We were in the bar and we drank excessive amount of beer. When we left we decided to steal bags," one of the suspects said. The High Criminal Court had earlier adjourned the case until yesterday to assign lawyers for the defendants.
