Records of the relationship between the people of Bahrain and the Indian state of Tamil Nadu can be found in Indian scriptures that are more than 4,000 years old, according to a renowned Indian social activist and Tamil literary expert.

Bahrain’s relationship with Tamil people is one of the most historic, said Indian politician Vaiko who is a renowned literary scholar and a social activist from Tamil Nadu. He arrived in the Kingdom yesterday to attend the Gulf Tamil Literary Festival which will take place tomorrow.

“I have made a brief study about Bahrain, about its ancient civilization and the people. Tamil Nadu is also a land of ancient civilization. We had a trade relationship with this Island. This is mentioned even in our Sangam literature,” he said. “Bahrain was home to the best pearl divers in the world.

The pearl divers from this Island used to come to Tamil Nadu to give training to people in Tamil Nadu. Over 2,000 years ago, Bahrain began importing black pepper from Tamil Nadu,” he said.
