Bahrain Medical Aid to support Rohingya refugees

ManamaFatima Al Mansoori, head of the medical support team at the Bahraini Medical Aid, will join the Rohingya Medical Camp on Wednesday to provide psychosocial support services for Rohingya refugees. The visit of Al Mansoori, who is also a renowned Yoga therapist, aims to raise awareness and draw attention of the international community and the Bahraini society to the tragedy of the Rohingya refugees.

The Bahraini Medical Aid, which consists of a group of doctors and volunteer specialists, was established in 2013 with several international partnerships.

The most recent trip was in October 2017 when the President of the Society, Dr Mohamed Ayed and the Board Member Dr Aya Al-Zomroni visited the refugee camps to observe the status of the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh and assess their medical needs. This had resulted in establishing a clinic for medical examination and treatment serving approximately 100 patients a day with Bahraini donations and in cooperation with international medical organizations in an effort to alleviate the suffering of Rohingyas and to alleviate the damage caused by providing medical services.

“I’ll be heading the Rohingya refugees medical camp to provide integrative psycho-social wellbeing services including pain management and trauma relief sessions,” said Al Mansoori.

“I believe that psycho-social wellbeing services are not just for the upper-class, but for all who are suffering. A lot of people don’t have the support they are looking for. Over the span of ten days, we will be accompanied by a group of volunteer specialists, surgeons who would further provide medical support to the refugees,” she said.

The Bahrain Medical Aid Society believes that complementary treatments, psycho-social wellbeing support and treatment of post-traumatic symptoms and trauma relief are of utmost importance, which is at the core of Al Mansoori’s speciality, who has been serving as the head of the medical support team at the Bahrain Medical Aid Society since 2014.

The Bahrain Medical Aid Society cooperates with several international relief organizations with experience in providing medical relief. Al-Mansoori will meet refugees to discuss ways of cooperation and study the need and possible involvement of doctors and volunteers from Bahrain.
