Appeals court upholds man’s conviction in brother’s murder

Manama : The Supreme Court of Appeals on Thursday upheld the conviction of a Bahraini man accused of killing his 21-year-old brother at their home under the influence of drugs.

The 23-year-old accused was sentenced to 2 years in prison after the Court found him guilty of murder last year.

The appeal court upheld the trial court’s decision saying: “The clemency of the court was already used despite the prosecution’s demands to apply maximum punishment against the defendant.”

The accused, according to court files, stabbed his brother to death at their home in Hamad Town on October 30 last year.

The accused denied the murder charges and filed an appeal arguing that he never had any intention to kill.

He denied the charges when interrogated by the Child and Family Prosecution last year.

Court files say the victim was stabbed to death using a kitchen knife, following an argument erupted between the two brothers, at around 5 am in the morning.

Coroner report said: “The death was caused by a deep wound in the chest, causing a myocardial rupture, cuts to the left lung, haemorrhage and trauma”.

The accused was given a one-year jail term for unintentionally stabbing his younger brother to death and another year and a fine of  BD1,000 fine for drug abuse.
