Heat stroke victim making ‘miraculous’ recovery

ManamaAn Indian national who suffered a heat stroke last week is slowly recovering, said Dr. PV Cheriyan who is the Chief resident at Accident and Emergency Section of Salmaniya Medical Complex.

Considering the critical condition that the victim was in a week ago, the recovery shown by him is miraculous, he said. Mohammed Harris suffered a heatstroke last Sunday as he was returning after his morning shift. He entered a coma state and was diagnosed with a complication called Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation

“Sedation has been reduced after we noticed some improvements in him. We are trying a weening period to remove the sedation. We hope that he can reach a conscious level in the next few days. It’s actually a miraculous improvement that he has shown so far,” he told DT News.

“The fact that he has even opened his eyes a few times is an indication that he is coming out. However, he is still not able to respond to any of our questions or suggestions. It may take a while to reach this stage,” Dr. Cheriyan said.

“At the moment I can say that from what the blood reports say, his kidney function and other vital organs are improving. This is a good indication that he will come out. Now we have to wait until we wean him off the sedatives to assess his situation fully,” he said.

“We are happy to note these improvements in him. Usually in cases relating to heatstroke it is very difficult to come out of. The Intensive care unit team has been working very hard and I am glad that their efforts are helping him,” he said.
