Janez Brajkovic, Cink top Bahrain Merida riders

Manama : Bahrain’s Merida Pro Cycling Team rider Janez Brajkovic (Slovenia) came in 43rd place in five hours 33 minutes 29 seconds yesterday after completing the mountainous ninth stage of the 104th Tour de France from Nantua to Chambery over 181.5km.

The stage winner was the Colombian Rigoberto Uran of the Cannondale Drapac Professional Cycling Team in five hours seven minutes 22 minutes, which saw the field reduced by 12 as five riders withdrew and seven eliminated after failing to complete the course in the time limit.

Second place for the Bahrain riders was the Czech Republic rider Ondrej Cink (69th, +27:10) with Japanese Yukiya Arashiro (97th, +27.10) in third and Spaniard Javier Moreno (106th, +27:10) fourth.

The tour began with 22 teams comprising 198 riders racing 21 stages over 3,540km in varying terrains such as flat courses, hills and the mountains, with the final stage on 23 July covering 103km over a flat course from Montgeron to the Champs-Elysees in Paris.

Today is a rest day and the tour resumes tomorrow with the 10th stage taking the remaining (181) riders from Perigueux to Bergerac.
