More greenery mooted with latest technologies

Assistant Undersecretary for joint municipal services in the Ministry of Works and Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning, Raed Salah stated the ministry is mooting planting of trees in all the regions of the Kingdom, relying on the latest technologies at low costs.
This was said during his tour with Assistant Undersecretary for Resources and Information Sheikh Nasser bin Mohammed Al Khalifa to the Adhari plantation to discuss the comprehensive plan.
The strategic plan stems from interest and follow-up of Wife of HM the King and Supreme Council for Women Chairwoman HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa.
The ministry has developed a set of strategic objectives to improve infrastructure of the agricultural sector and increase the proportion of green spaces in all areas of Bahrain.
Salah pointed out the importance of keeping up with emerging technological, economic developments and urban expansion. He said it has become necessary to develop agricultural expertise to keep pace with this development for the sustainability of the agricultural sector.
He added the ministry seeks to change aesthetics of streets and major areas in the Kingdom to distinguish each one with certain types of trees and flowers.
He commended the technologies owned by the Adhari Plantation, particularly the seed planting device, which is the first of its kind in the Middle East.
On a related note, Shaikh Nasser bin Mohammed Al Khalifa said the culture of afforestation is a pillar in the strategic plan to spread more greenery in Bahrain, and is one of the targets of Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.
He said the ministry plans to convert the plant nursery into an educational center to help the public take advantage of professional expertise and learn the best practices of planting. This would push forward for a new generation that will help agricultural development, he said.
Head of Plant Nursery Development, Abbas Arafat the nursery is 30,000 sq metres and is produces over 2 million petunia flowers. He said the plant would be used for the roadside greenery project.
