GPIC crosses HY milestone

Manama

Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery announced that the petrochemical giant has achieved its projected targets in the first half of this year.

“The success comes after the implementation of the company’s biggest-ever turnaround carried out earlier this year after which its plants have been working at high efficiency and to full production capacity,” read a company statement.

Dr. Jawahery said the successful results and the earlier comprehensive maintenance were due to the professionalism, efficiency and commitment of its workers. He said the GPIC Management would take all the challenges and opportunities in its stride to develop plans and procedures suited to various conditions.

He noted that the company achieving 16 million hours totalling 4,814 days without a lost-time accident is the result of a high level of safety awareness among its workers.

He said such records not only represent a great challenge but also reflect the commitment by all concerned to maintain success and, at the same time, work towards achieving more.

Dr. Jawahery said the year started off with a number of challenges but over time the Company has maintained high standards and managed to meet all the set targets.

He said the uninterrupted production of Ammonia, Methanol and Urea is a great achievement especially since the plants have been working non-stop since the last turnaround in 2012.

Dr. Jawahery said the company’s exports have been going on smoothly according to the marketing plan and contractual obligations, with total exports of Ammonia, Urea and Methanol touching 465,000 tonnes. He said GPIC produced 189,000 tonnes of Ammonia, 177,000 tonnes of Methanol and 302,000 tonnes of Urea in the first six months of the year.

Dr. Jawahery said the company exported to many countries but the United States got the lion's share, with 41 per cent, followed by Brazil (18pc). The company’s exports to Turkey, he said, were 45,000 metric tons.

Dr. Jawahery thanked the GPIC Board of Directors, chaired by HE Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, as well as the Executive Management for their efforts to ensure the company's success and said, “this has resulted in more growth, which conforms to the highest safety standards,” in a company statement.
