Woman who dumped baby in dustbin was impregnated by lover

Manama : More details were revealed yesterday about the 34-year-old woman who dumped her new-born baby in a restroom in Bahrain International Airport and travelled to Dubai, on her way back to Indonesia, her native country, in March this year.

The dead infant was found wrapped in the bin by the cleaners at a restroom in the departure hall.

The woman was arrested by the Emirati police after she was taken to a hospital there when she suffered health complications at Dubai International Airport.

She was brought back to Bahrain three days after the incident took place as per an international arrest warrant issued against her by the Public Prosecution here.

While she stood trial before the First High Criminal Court yesterday, the woman confessed that she worked in Bahrain and was impregnated by her Pakistani boyfriend, who denied any relation to the child.

She claimed that she only found out about her pregnancy in the seventh month and that she bought abortion pills from a Bangladeshi national here.

The woman also said that she had taken the pills a day before the incident. She told the interrogators that she entered the restroom when she felt abdominal pain and gave birth there.

Court files showed that when the baby began crying, the woman wrapped it in a plastic bag and hid it in her backpack, before going to a different restroom where she cleaned herself and threw the baby in the waste bin.

The Public Prosecution announced that the woman was interrogated, accused of premeditated murder of her new-born and referred to court.

“This case reflects one aspect of the judicial cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. The authorities in Dubai were informed immediately after the foetus was found in the airport and that that the mother was traveling on a flight through Dubai International Airport. Security authorities in both countries cooperated and the suspect was arrested and brought to Bahrain through the International Police, Interpol,” Child and Family Prosecution Deputy Attorney Hamad Al Gallaf stated earlier.

The First High Criminal Court ordered to adjourn the case to September 26 to hear witnesses’ testimonies, while the suspect remains in custody.
