Labour Minister chairs Safety and Occupational Health Council’s meeting

Labour Minister and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan said that implementing the council’s vision on establishing a work milieu free of accidents and occupational diseases required concerted efforts among related authorities.
The aim is to enhance occupational safety and health, which has become one of the labour values in the developed countries for its positive impact on the economic sector.
He was speaking while chairing the Safety and Occupational Health Council’s second meeting in which the council’s strategic plan 2015-2018 was discussed and approved here yesterday.
The Minister said that the strategic plan included articles to ensure the improvement of work environment and workers’ safety and health measurements. “Resolutions pertaining to occupational safety and health will be reviewed to deal with any obstacles due to the rapid technological development.”
The council will establish a mechanism and a timetable for the implementation of the strategy within the framework of the exerted efforts to achieve tangible results to keep up with the challenges, particularly the safety and health of the human element in various work and production sites.
It is worth noting that His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa issued Edict 2/2015 on the formation of Safety and Occupational Health Council, which comprises representatives from Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, Ministry of Health, Civil Service Bureau (CSB), Supreme Council for Environment, Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco), Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC), General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions (GFBTU), Bahrain Free Labour Unions Federation (BFLUF), Bahraini Health and Safety Society.
