Dar Kulab crowned Volleyball champions

ManamaDar Kulaib won the mini volley tournament gold medal as the Fourth School Mini Olympics got underway over the weekend after beating Al Nasser ‘B’ and Al Nasser ‘A’ teams, who had to settle for the silver and bronze medals respectively.

Bahrain Volleyball Association president Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, joined by his son Shaikh Mohammed bin Ali Al Khalifa, honoured the top three teams at the prize-presentation ceremony staged yesterday.

The Mini Olympics are being organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education. Action began on Friday with the 3-on-3 basketball tournament, followed by the cricket competition on Saturday. Meanwhile, the official opening ceremony of the Mini Olympics will take place today at 11am in the Isa Town Sports City Bahrain Volleyball Association gym in Riffa.

Today’s ceremony will be held under the patronage of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty King Hamad Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president. More than 2,000 students from government and private schools are lined up for this two-week event. Fourteen sports will be contested - football, 3-on-3 basketball, volleyball, handball, table tennis, athletics cricket, hockey, swimming, water sports, gymnastics, taekwondo, jiu jitsu and karting.
