Private shop shut down for running unlicensed campaign

ManamaA private establishment in Hoora was closed-down by the authorities yesterday for violating the Kingdom’s regulations for discount offers and promotion campaigns.

Consumer Protection Directorate in Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry announced yesterday that it had “administratively closed City Max Events Management for running an unlicensed promotion campaign”.

“The company used and printed discount booklets and coupons that belonged to other shops and promoted them through outdoor salespersons,” the directorate said.

“Considering consumers’ rights protection, the establishment was administratively closed and administrative and legal procedures have been taken in this regard,” the directorate explained in a video showing the closure of the establishment in Hoora area in the Capital.

The directorate has been firm in dealing with establishments that violate consumers’ rights.

Recently several commercial outlets were closed by the directorate for cheating with price tags and misleading customers.

Moreover, a couple of supermarkets were referred to the Public Prosecution on the charges of commercial fraud.
