Two jailed for torching ex-Bahrain MP's car.

Manama : The High Criminal Appeals Court has upheld the 10 years imprisonment issued against two defendants implicated in the case of burning two luxury vehicles of ex-MP Ali Al Durazi.

Three men, including the two appellants were tried in connection with the case, and the third man also received equal punishment.

He had lost his appeal against his conviction earlier. The incident occurred in 2014 during the parliamentary elections in which Al Durazi had contested to the parliament for a second term after he was elected unopposed in 2011.

According to the case, the trio jumped over the fence of the ex-MP’s house at night and doused his two cars with petrol and set them on fire. Then they fled from the scene. The blaze caused damage to the house also.

The Bahrainis told prosecutors that they wanted to petrify Al Durazi to pull out from the polls.

The court has also ordered them to pay a total of BD51,980 in compensation for the damage caused to the vehicles and the house.
