Bahrain court upholds jail for setting car ablaze

Manama: Three defendants convicted of setting a vehicle on fire on Budaiya Highway have had their jail terms upheld. They were earlier sentenced to three years in prison. According to the case, officers at Budaiya Police Station were informed about a vehicle fire in the middle of the road.

Civil Defence personnel headed to the scene, and they found that it was a man-made fire.

Investigations revealed that the vehicle was bought by the first defendant from a scrapyard. During interrogations, he admitted to his involvement in the incident. He also provided the identity of his accomplices.

“My friend (the first defendant) asked me over phone to meet him near a Muqsha mosque after the afternoon prayer,” the second defendant said in his statement.

“They (the first and third defendants) were waiting for me inside the car. We headed to the roundabout near Burger Land, where we abandoned the car after setting it ablaze,” he added.

The incident occurred on February 10 last year. The defendants, including a 16-year-old boy, were accused of torching a vehicle in a public place, putting lives in danger and possessing flammables.
