Bahrain court uphold women's robbery case
Manama : The Lower Criminal Court has upheld the jail sentence of a woman convicted on grounds of robbery.
A pharmacy employee was earlier held guilty for abetting the woman in her crime.
But he was later acquitted on appeal due to lack of evidence.
The woman was handed down six months in prison.
They allegedly stole a safe containing jewellery, belonging to the woman’s sister in-law.
The woman and her husband lived along with her sister in-law and mother in-law in the same house.
The other man was her reportedly her boyfriend and a CCTV camera installed near the house caught them taking the safe out of the house.
The woman admitted during committing the robbery, expressing regret over it.
“Everyone was sleeping, so I called my friend who was working in a nearby pharmacy to help me move the safe,” the woman told prosecutors.
The man, however, denied knowing anything about the robbery, claiming that the woman had cheated him.
“She told me that the safe belonged to her, but that she forgot the password. She requested me to open it. I used a screwdriver and did so. We were only friends, and I am a married man. She didn’t tell me about the robbery,” the man claimed.
