Attempt to smuggle 156 liqour bottles foiled

Manama: Saudi authorities foiled an attempt to smuggle 156 liqour bottles from Bahrain through King Fahad Causeway, reported Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Quoting Saudi Customs General Director Dhaifallah Al Otaibi, SPA said “the bottles were stashed in four custom-made boxes that were installed in the bottom of a travelers’ bus.”

“While conducting ordinary vehicles’ inspection at the entrance to the Kingdom, a customs officer suspected the vehicle. Intensive search resulted in the detection of the boxes, which were custom-made for smuggling purposes,” Al Otaibi stated, while commending on the vigilance of Saudi customs officers.

Many smuggling attempts were foiled this year alone. At least five cases of smuggling were reported. It included liquor bottles hidden in vehicles and once in a towed boat, in addition to narcotics stashed in coffee powder packets and even human trafficking of two “foreign” women and seven Asian workers.
