Patients seeking non-emergency treatment at Government Hospitals must now present a valid smart identity card, either physically or through the Hukoomati app, before receiving healthcare services.

The new requirement, announced on Government Hospitals' official Instagram account, is intended to strengthen patient verification, improve registration accuracy and support Bahrain's digital transformation. Hospital officials urged patients to ensure their smart ID is valid and readily available before arriving for appointments, saying the measure would streamline registration, reduce waiting times and improve administrative efficiency.

Patients unable to provide valid identification may not receive non-emergency treatment until their identity is verified in line with regulations.

The requirement does not apply to emergency cases, with hospitals confirming that urgent and life-saving treatment will continue to be provided immediately under existing healthcare laws.

Officials said standardising identity verification through the smart ID would help maintain accurate medical records, simplify hospital procedures and enhance the overall patient experience.
