Bahrain Football Legend Ismail Abdullatif Retires

Veteran striker Ismail Abdullatif has called time on his playing career after over 25 years in the game.

The forward, known to fans as ‘Sama’a’, broke the news in a social media post on Saturday, saying the curtain had fallen on a career filled with pride, grit and landmark goals.

‘Every beginning has an end, and every ending brings a new beginning,’ he wrote.

Abdullatif said his years on the pitch had been shaped by hard work, willpower and a hunger to win.

He added that he had worn every club shirt with pride and had always tried to repay the faith shown in him by fans.

The former Bahrain star thanked his family, team-mates, coaches, club boards and supporters for standing by him through each stage of his career.

‘I leave the pitch proud of all that was achieved and thankful for every moment that helped build this legacy,’ he said.

‘Retirement ends the career of a player, but it opens a new chapter in which the love of football and loyalty to the game will live on.’

Abdullatif was one of Bahrain’s best-known frontmen and the national side’s record goalscorer.

He played in several Asian Cup tournaments and scored in some of Bahrain’s biggest matches, earning a lasting place among the country’s football greats.

He ended his message with a final salute: ‘Thank you, football, and thank you to everyone who was part of this unforgettable story.’
