The court sentenced a defendant to life imprisonment after convicting him of communicating with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Lebanon’s Hezbollah in connection with plans to carry out hostile acts against the kingdom.
The High Criminal Court also ordered the confiscation of seized materials after finding the defendant guilty of sharing sensitive information with a foreign entity and supporting activities deemed harmful to Bahrain’s national security.
According to the Head of the Terror Crimes Prosecution, the case involved intelligence provided to the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science, which later confirmed that the defendant had been recruited by Hezbollah while residing in Bahrain.
Investigators said he attempted to join the group and was instructed to transmit photographs, videos, and other data linked to the aftermath of alleged Iranian attacks on Bahrain. The material was reportedly sent to electronic accounts operated from Iran under the supervision of the IRGC and Iranian intelligence services.
Authorities said the information could have been used by hostile actors and posed a threat to national security and the safety of citizens and residents.
The Public Prosecution said the defendant later confessed during questioning, and forensic examinations of seized electronic devices supported the charges. Witness testimonies were also heard during the investigation and trial.
Prosecutors added that the case was heard over several sessions, with all legal procedures observed and defence representation present.
