A comprehensive human rights report submitted to UNESCO highlights the severe impact of Iranian-linked military escalations on the educational and cultural landscapes of Gulf and Arab nations.
The report was presented by Faisal Folad, Secretary-General of the International Alliance to Counter the Aggression of the Iranian Regime, to H.E. Dr. Mohammed Jumeh, Yemen’s Ambassador and Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, on behalf of the Arab States.
The document analyzes the humanitarian consequences of recent ballistic missile and drone attacks, framing them through UNESCO’s crisis response principles.
Warning
It warns that such aggression extends beyond physical destruction, threatening the future of entire generations by destabilizing social and academic foundations.
The report documents the suspension of schooling in affected areas and the significant psychological toll on children and youth, emphasizing that disrupting academic continuity violates fundamental human rights.
Furthermore, direct and indirect threats to cultural sites jeopardize the community identity and social cohesion of the targeted regions.
Infrastructure
The targeting of vital civilian infrastructure, including airports and energy facilities, poses a direct threat to the safety of the general public and the large migrant worker population in the Gulf.
The Alliance also noted a rise in incitement and misinformation during these conflicts, calling for responsible media to promote stability and social cohesion.
The International Alliance issued a strong condemnation of the attacks, classifying them as flagrant violations of the UN Charter and international humanitarian law.
Report
The report calls for an immediate cessation of military escalation and proxy attacks, alongside full legal accountability and fair compensation for damages caused to affected states.
It stresses the need for strengthened UNESCO intervention to protect educational institutions and heritage sites, concluding that protecting education and culture is a moral and legal obligation essential for securing sustainable peace in the region.
