Not Every Video Is True, A Quiet Warning in a Loud Digital World

It takes only seconds.

A video arrives. A message is forwarded. A headline appears on a screen. And before anyone pauses, it spreads.

In recent days, a growing wave of online content, videos, images, and breaking “news”, has been circulating rapidly across social media platforms in Bahrain. But behind this flood of information lies a quieter message, not everything we see is real.

Awareness

Amani Al Nefaiei, a PhD researcher in digital media, has urged the public to be more cautious about what they consume and share online, reminding users that not every video reaching their phones reflects the truth.

Her message comes at a time when emotional content travels faster than facts. Old clips are reshared as if they are new. Edited footage appears convincing. Some posts are circulated without verification, sometimes unintentionally, and sometimes with the aim of creating confusion or fear.

Reality

What appears on screens often tells only part of the story.

Without clear sources or professional verification, information reaches the public directly, without what experts describe as a “gatekeeper”. In this space, emotions can easily take over, pushing people to react, share, and amplify before fully understanding what they are seeing.

The result is not always misinformation alone, but uncertainty.

Responsibility

Calls are growing for the public to rely on official and trusted sources, including Bahrain News Agency, national television and radio, the National Communication Centre, and official newspapers.

The responsibility, however, does not sit with institutions alone.

It sits with every individual holding a phone.

Risk

With the rise of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, visual content itself is no longer always reliable. Images and videos can now be created or altered in ways that make them appear real, even when they are not.

Such content, if left unchecked, can affect public confidence, social stability, and even economic activity.

Community

Yet beyond the warnings, there is something deeper.

In moments of uncertainty, people reach out to each other. Messages are exchanged not only to inform, but to reassure. Families check in. Friends confirm safety. Communities try to stay grounded.

This is where awareness becomes more than a concept.

It becomes protection.

Unity

The message is simple, but urgent.

Be aware. Verify before sharing. Do not let fear lead the way.

Because in a time where information moves faster than ever, what protects society is not silence, but responsibility.
