Manama: The United States Department of State has updated its travel advisory for Bahrain, urging American citizens to reconsider travel due to security risks linked to regional tensions.
In its latest update, the department raised the advisory level to Level 3: Reconsider Travel, citing concerns related to terrorism and the possibility of armed conflict in the region.
The announcement follows the outbreak of hostilities between the United States and Iran on February 28, 2026. According to officials, the situation has increased the threat of potential drone and missile attacks originating from Iran, as well as caused disruptions to commercial flights.
As a precaution, the State Department has authorised the voluntary departure of non-emergency U.S. government employees and their family members from Bahrain.
The advisory also warned that terrorist groups may continue to plan possible attacks in Bahrain. Such attacks could occur with little or no warning and may target locations frequently visited by the public.
Potential targets could include tourist sites, transportation hubs, markets, shopping malls, religious locations, and government or military facilities, the department said.
U.S. authorities encouraged travellers to review the official country information page for Bahrain and remain alert to the evolving security situation in the region.
