GCC Central Bank Governors Discuss Payment Systems, AML, and Cybersecurity

As part of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s chairmanship of the 46th session of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Mr. Khalid Ibrahim Humaidan, Governor of the Central Bank of Bahrain, chaired the 86th meeting of the GCC Central Bank Governors Committee for 2026. The meeting was held today in Manama, with the participation of H.E. Mr. Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the GCC, and the governors of central banks from all GCC member states.

The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation among GCC countries, with discussions highlighting recommendations from committees and working groups on payment systems, banking supervision, and oversight mechanisms, as well as emerging financial technologies across the region.

The committee also deliberated on the exchange of cybersecurity information within the banking sector and reviewed GCC-wide efforts to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism.
