Council Pushes to Fast Track Completion of Budaiya Health Centre
Pressure
The Northern Municipal Council renewed its pressure to accelerate the completion of the Budaiya Health Centre, warning that continued delays strain healthcare services and residents in surrounding areas. The issue was raised under the “Other Business” agenda during the council’s Ordinary Session 11, following a proposal submitted by council member Mohammed Saad Al Dossary.
Demand
Council members learned that the existing Budaiya clinic is under significant pressure, serving an estimated 7,500 patients monthly. The facility serves several residential areas, including Budaiya and nearby villages, making it one of the busiest primary healthcare points in the Northern Governorate. Members stressed that current capacity no longer reflects population growth or rising demand for medical services.
Delays
According to documents reviewed by the council, the project has already passed several key procedural stages, including initial approval from the Ministry of Health and coordination with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning regarding site allocation and registration. Despite this progress, the project remains stalled. Councillors expressed concern that the delay is now administrative rather than technical.
Concern
Mohammed Saad Al Dossary stated that the health centre is a vital service that cannot face prolonged postponement, especially as residents rely on an overstretched facility. Members agreed that further delays could undermine access to timely healthcare and increase pressure on neighbouring centres.
Decision
The council unanimously agreed to raise a formal recommendation to the Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, urging approval and swift action to complete all remaining stages of the Budaiya Health Centre project. Members stressed that accelerating implementation is essential to safeguarding public health and ensuring services keep pace with population needs.
