Manama: Electricity consumption tariffs for citizens living in their first home have been reduced following Cabinet approval, His Excellency Mr Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan, Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, announced.
The decision, taken after the Cabinet chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister reviewed the views of members of the House of Representatives, lowers the tariff for consumption between 5,000 and 7,000 electricity units to 16 fils per unit, down from 32 fils per unit.
The minister said the move reflects the government’s commitment to partnership and constructive cooperation between the executive and legislative authorities, noting that parliamentary input played a key role in shaping the amendment.
He added that the revised tariff takes into account citizens’ needs while ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of electricity and water services.
The new electricity tariff will be applied to bills issued from January 1 for citizens residing in their first home.
