Bahrain Expresses Solidarity With Spain After Train Crash

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s sympathy and solidarity with the Kingdom of Spain following a deadly collision between two high speed trains in the Andalusia region in southern Spain, which resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries.

The ministry conveyed Bahrain’s sincere condolences and deepest sympathies to the Spanish government and people, as well as to the families and relatives of the victims. It also wished a full recovery to those injured in the incident, reaffirming the Kingdom’s standing alongside Spain during this tragic moment.

The statement came as Spanish authorities confirmed that the death toll from the crash had risen to at least 39 people, with around 123 others injured. Of those hurt, five were reported to be in a very critical condition, while 24 were described as being in serious condition. Authorities warned that the number of fatalities could still rise, describing the incident as the worst railway accident in Spain in more than a decade.

Incident

Images broadcast by Spanish television showed the two trains after the collision, surrounded by large crowds as ambulances and emergency teams rushed to the scene to assist the wounded and secure the area.

According to Spanish officials, the accident involved a high speed train operated by a private company travelling from Malaga towards Madrid, which derailed near Adamuz, around 200 kilometres north of Malaga. The train collided with another high speed service operated by the national rail company that was travelling in the opposite direction on an adjacent track towards the city of Huelva.

The force of the collision was reported to be so severe that it caused multiple carriages from both trains to derail, with hundreds of passengers on board at the time of the crash.

Spanish transport authorities said railway experts were deeply shocked by the circumstances surrounding the accident. The head of the state run rail operator ruled out excessive speed or human error as possible causes, as investigations into the incident continue.

Bahrain’s message of solidarity underscored its commitment to humanitarian values and international cooperation in times of tragedy.
