Six-Year Jail Sentence for Travel Office Partner in Fraud Case
The Public Prosecution in the Northern Governorate announced that the Minor Criminal Court has sentenced a defendant to six years in prison and fined him BD 5,000 after convicting him of breach of trust and fraud. The court also ordered that the related civil case be referred to the competent civil court.
According to the prosecution, the case began after several victims filed complaints against a partner at a travel office. The accused had advertised group travel packages and collected money from customers as payment for the trips. However, when the travel dates arrived, the victims discovered that no actual bookings had been made in their names. Upon visiting the travel office, they found it closed.
The Public Prosecution immediately launched an investigation, hearing statements from the victims and a representative of the travel office. Investigations confirmed that the accused had fraudulently taken the victims’ money, misappropriated funds belonging to the office, and then fled the country.
An arrest and extradition order was issued, and the suspect was circulated internationally. After completing the investigation and reviewing the evidence, the Public Prosecution referred the case to the court, which issued the verdict.
