A Bahraini criminal court has sentenced an Asian national to 10 years’ imprisonment and fined him BD5,000 after convicting him of drug trafficking.
Investigators said the accused used a “dead drop” method, hiding narcotic substances near a cemetery and close to an unfinished building to avoid direct handovers. The case came to light after police received a tip-off from a delivery worker, prompting surveillance of the area.
Officers later recovered concealed packages containing narcotic substances, along with empty plastic bags and adhesive materials used for packaging.
The suspect was arrested while attempting to leave the country via the King Fahd Causeway, where a police sniffer dog alerted officers to drugs hidden inside his personal belongings. Laboratory analysis confirmed the substances to be cannabis.
During questioning, the defendant admitted possessing the drugs, claiming they were for personal use, and said he had attempted to dispose of them before inspection.
The court ordered the confiscation of the seized vehicle and ruled that the defendant be deported upon completion of his sentence.
