His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Personal Representative of His Majesty the King and Chairman of the Supreme Council for the Environment, praised the issuance of a Royal Decree by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to name Al Areen Reserve after His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, in celebration of the UAE’s 54th Union Day.
HH Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad emphasised that the Royal Decree reflects the deep-rooted fraternal relations between Bahrain and the UAE, as well as the high level of bilateral cooperation achieved across various sectors.
He noted the commitment of HM the King and HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed to further strengthen these distinguished ties and expand avenues of joint collaboration to fulfill the shared aspirations of both nations and peoples. The Personal Representative emphasised that this step also recognises the UAE President’s pioneering role in environmental sustainability and wildlife protection at regional and international levels.
He noted that Al Areen Reserve, now named the “Mohammed bin Zayed Nature Reserve,” is one of Bahrain’s most prominent environmental landmarks, and that its renaming will inspire continued efforts to preserve biodiversity and develop wildlife protection programs in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and Bahrain’s long-term vision.
His Highness reaffirmed the Supreme Council for Environment’s dedication to implementing national environmental initiatives and enhancing regional and international partnerships to safeguard natural resources for future generations.
The reserve hosts diverse local and regional wildlife species and serves as a breeding and scientific propagation center for rare species.
It also functions as an educational and research facility supporting Bahrain’s national efforts in environmental protection and wildlife conservation.
