Unlicensed Nursery Operator Sentenced to Three Months in Jail

The Head of the Family and Child Prosecution has announced that the Fourth Minor Criminal Court has issued a three-month jail sentence against a woman who opened and operated a nursery without a licence. The court also ordered the confiscation of all items seized at the site.

The case began after the Ministry of Education filed a report stating that the woman was running an unlicensed nursery. Inspectors visited the location and found it operating with around 30 children enrolled. This was despite her being previously fined twice for opening the nursery without approval, and for reopening it again after the fines.

Inspectors also noted several safety violations, including failure to meet basic health and safety standards required for childcare institutions.

During questioning, the accused admitted that she regularly received children and offered educational and recreational activities in exchange for monthly payments from parents, all without the necessary licence from the Ministry of Education.

The Public Prosecution ordered her pre-trial detention, closed the unlicensed facility, and referred the case to court, which issued the sentence announced today.
