The First High Criminal Court has sentenced an African national to two years in prison and ordered his permanent deportation after serving his term, for causing the death of two workers and injuring others in a fatal traffic accident.

The court found the defendant guilty of involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving, which resulted in the crash. One of the injured victims sustained a fractured leg and minor head bleeding.

During its closing arguments, the Public Prosecution demanded the maximum penalty, stating that the defendant’s actions showed gross negligence and disregard for human life, emphasizing that the verdict should serve as a deterrent to similar reckless behavior.

Overtaking maneuver

Investigations revealed that the defendant, who was driving a bus carrying workers after a night shift, attempted an illegal overtaking maneuver at around 6:35 a.m., entering the opposite lane and colliding head-on with a truck traveling in its proper direction.

The impact resulted in the immediate death of two passengers and severe injuries to two others, in addition to extensive damage to both vehicles.

The prosecution confirmed that all elements of the crime were established, supported by clear evidence and witness testimony, leaving the defendant fully responsible for the tragic outcome.
