Yesterday, at the opening ceremony of the third Asian Youth Games, Bahrain officially welcomed more than 4,000 athletes from across the continent ahead of the mega youth sports event. Speaking to the Daily Tribune, Yousif Duaij, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Games, praised the Kingdom’s leadership. “Thanks to His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, everything has come together perfectly. The opening ceremony signals the start of what we hope will be a flawless week of competition,” he said.
Strength in Solidarity
Timothy Tsun Ting Fok, First Vice-President of the Olympic Council of Asia, also addressed the audience, saying, “We want to thank Bahrain for stepping forward in our time of need. This is by far the largest Youth Games ever, and the Organising Committee has done a marvellous job in just eight months. Bahrain 2025 will be remembered as the place where future legends began their path to the Asian Games and Olympic glory.” He added, echoing Duaij’s remarks, that the Games are as much about unity as achievement: “Winning a medal is important, but you are already a winner by being here. Friendships forged will last a lifetime.”
Coaches’ Perspective
Coaches and officials shared their impressions, reinforcing the excitement and quality of the event. Manal Chokshi of the Indian Olympic Committee told TDT, “It’s a brilliant setup, and the facilities are top-class. The finals tomorrow promise even more thrilling action, and we’re thrilled to be part of it.” Lucas Cepero, Qatar’s volleyball coach, added, “The organisation is fantastic, and the whole tournament has been well managed. We’re aiming to continue performing at our best.”
From the opening ceremony onwards, Bahrain has provided a stage for Asia’s young athletes to compete, connect, and build lasting friendships. Spectators and volunteers contributed to a vibrant atmosphere, supporting the athletes and celebrating their achievements. The event then concluded with the Olympic Council of Asia flag proudly displayed, a symbolic reminder of the shared vision behind the Games.
