Bahrain Maintains Tier 1 Ranking in U.S. Trafficking in Persons Report for Eighth Consecutive Year
H.E. Mr. Youssef bin Abdulhussain Khalaf, Minister of Legal Affairs and Acting Minister of Labour, affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the guidance of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Prime Minister, continues to uphold human rights and combat human trafficking and all forms of exploitation. This commitment is reinforced through the enactment and development of legislation aligned with international labor standards.
The statement was made on the occasion of Bahrain being classified in Tier 1 for the eighth consecutive year in the U.S. Department of State’s annual Trafficking in Persons Report.
H.E. Khalaf highlighted the national efforts of relevant authorities and institutions in combating human trafficking, noting their constructive collaboration in implementing best practices to address this issue. These efforts strengthen Bahrain’s position as a model for handling humanitarian concerns.
He also praised the diligent oversight of H.E. Lieutenant-General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, and the ministry’s work in providing a comprehensive security framework that supports national efforts to combat human trafficking.
Additionally, H.E. Khalaf commended the work of H.E. Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, for his role in managing human rights matters internationally, which has helped highlight Bahrain’s achievements in this field. He further acknowledged the contributions of the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Awqaf, the Supreme Council for the Judiciary, the Public Prosecution, and the Labour Market Regulatory Authority in taking integrated measures and actions in line with relevant laws and regulations to combat human trafficking.
