Bahrain’s relations with Japan have entered a new era with the elevation of ties to a strategic partnership, said MP Dr. Maryam Al-Dhaen while calling it a historic turning point that strengthens innovation and knowledge economy goals.

She noted the upgrade goes beyond protocol, opening avenues for political, economic, scientific and cultural cooperation while rooted in peace and sustainable development.

Practical pillars

Dr. Al-Dhaen pointed to agreements signed during HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa’s visit to Tokyo, covering intellectual property with the Japan Patent Office, a memorandum with JAXA, and digital transformation. These, she said, form practical pillars for youth to gain advanced expertise, supporting Bahrain’s Vision 2030.

Deep roots Noting that the ties trace back to 1934’s first Bahraini oil shipment to Japan and formalised in 1972 with diplomatic relations, Dr. Al-Dhaen affirmed the elevation reflects the leaderships’ will to build a partnership that advances stability, prosperity, and a shared future.
