Bahrain leads human rights discussion with EU

The Shura Council Human Rights Committee chaired by Ahmed Al-Haddad met EU Special Representative for Human Rights delegation led by Stavros Lambrinidis yesterday.
The meeting discussed cooperation and ways to benefit from European Union’s expertise in human rights to ensure Bahraini legislation is compatible with international standards and agreements validated by the kingdom.
The Shura human rights committee stressed the resolve of the legislative branch in cooperation with the government to protect and promote human rights, as it expressed its intention to invite EU representatives to visit Bahrain to study the kingdom’s achievements in the field of human rights.
The committee highlighted keenness to establish cooperation with the European Union to further boost human rights in Bahrain.
The EU delegation praised the kingdom’s developments in arena of human rights in recent years and the establishment of institutions to promote the same.
