Authorities in Bahrain have arrested a foreign woman accused of posing as a doctor and carrying out unlicensed cosmetic procedures in her apartment.
The National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) reported that the woman had been advertising herself on social media as a dermatologist and cosmetologist, sharing photos and posts promoting services that were not legally approved.
Working with the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation, officials carried out a sting operation and caught the woman in the act of injecting clients with Botox for money. Investigators also found unlicensed medicines that she had imported into the Kingdom.
During questioning, the woman admitted to the charges. She has been placed in pretrial detention, and all the illegal drugs in her possession were confiscated. Police confirmed the details of the case, which has now been referred to the Minor Criminal Court. Her first hearing is scheduled for next Tuesday.
The Public Prosecutor stressed that strict regulations exist to protect patients from dangerous, unlicensed medical practices. He urged the public to only seek treatment from licensed professionals approved by the NHRA.
