Special Investigation Unit Receives 17 Complaints in Second Quarter of 2025
Prompt Action Taken on Human Rights Complaints
The Acting Attorney General and Head of the Special Investigation Unit, Mr. Mohammed Khalid Al-Hazzaa, confirmed that the Unit received 17 complaints during the second quarter of this year. The complaints fell under the Unit’s specialized mandate, and legal procedures were immediately initiated to uphold human rights within the criminal justice system.
Investigations and Interviews Conducted
During this period, the Unit’s investigation team interviewed 31 complainants and witnesses. In addition, 30 suspects, including members of the Public Security Forces, were questioned. Nine complainants were also referred to the Forensic Medicine and Psychological Support Division for medical and psychological assistance.
Criminal Case Forwarded to Court
Investigations into a complaint of physical abuse were completed, leading to one Public Security Forces member being referred to the criminal court. The trial is scheduled for September 17, 2025.
Disciplinary Actions for Security Force Members
In two other cases, investigations concluded against Public Security Forces members and were referred to the Military Courts Department at the Ministry of Interior for appropriate disciplinary measures. One complaint has already resulted in penalties, while the second remains under review.
Follow-up on Previous Cases
Separately, disciplinary penalties were issued against several Public Security Forces members in a previous case referred by the Unit to the Military Courts Department.
