Bahrain Introduces Measures to Promote High-Quality Local Products

Bahrain is giving strong support to its manufacturing sector, a key pillar of the national economy, said H.E. Abdullah bin Adel Fakhro, Minister of Industry and Commerce. He emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to localize industries and replace imports with high-quality Bahraini products, helping to increase competitiveness, achieve self-sufficiency, and empower the local industrial sector to drive sustainable development.

The minister highlighted Decision No. 63 of 2025, which sets rules for exempting industrial inputs from customs duties. Under the new regulations, industrial facilities can benefit from exemptions if the materials are unavailable in Bahrain, cannot meet the required standards locally, cannot be produced domestically within a certain timeframe, or if local costs exceed imported alternatives by more than 10%.

H.E. Fakhro explained that these measures are part of a strategic plan to enhance the competitiveness of Bahrain’s industrial sector, develop local content, and increase local value addition. The regulations are expected to support sustainable supply chains, enable industrial facilities to expand, and boost productivity.

He added that developing economic and regulatory policies to support local content aligns with the Industry Sector Strategy (2022–2026), empowering Bahraini manufacturers to increase efficiency and competitiveness. These efforts also strengthen Bahrain’s position as a regional and international industrial hub and support the country’s Economic Vision 2030.
