Expired goods seized, company shut down, and products destroyed

The Second Minor Criminal Court has convicted a defendant of possessing and selling expired food materials used in bakery products after altering their expiry dates. The court ordered a fine of BD100,000, confiscation and destruction of the spoiled goods, closure of the company, and disposal of tools used in the fraud.

Case Details

The case began when the Northern Governorate Police received a report from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce about a warehouse suspected of storing expired food items. Investigators discovered bakery materials with manipulated expiry dates, where old labels were removed and replaced with new ones. Expired goods were also found at the site. The ministry immediately ordered the warehouse closed.

Investigation

A Public Prosecution team inspected the warehouse, questioned 23 suspects and witnesses, and seized all the food products. Experts from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce conducted a full inventory, identifying expired goods and fake labels. Samples were sent to the forgery department, which confirmed that expiry dates had been tampered with by replacing original labels.

After reviewing the evidence, the court issued its ruling against the defendant. The Public Prosecution stressed that this is the second case of commercial fraud in recent weeks involving a different company and defendant, reaffirming its commitment to enforcing the law, protecting consumer rights, and ensuring public health and safety.
