The Civil Court has ruled that a Bahraini man and his nephew must pay BD 50,000 in compensation to the man’s ex-wife, who suffered serious burn injuries resulting in a permanent disability of 60%. The injuries were caused when the two men threw a burning liquid on her at a parking lot in a shopping complex.
The case was previously handled by the Criminal Court, which sentenced both men to 10 years in prison—a decision upheld by the Higher Criminal Court and now final. The Civil Court confirmed that the criminal ruling proves their guilt, requiring them to compensate the victim both financially and morally.
According to the victim’s lawyer, Kamil Al Alawi, the attack caused severe disfigurement and lasting physical harm that cannot be reversed. The lawyer explained that after the criminal conviction, the victim filed a civil lawsuit seeking BD 50,000 as compensation for the physical and emotional damages she endured.
In its ruling, the Civil Court emphasized that the law holds anyone who causes harm to another responsible for compensating the victim. When multiple people are responsible, they share the liability equally. The court also stressed that the criminal court’s final ruling prevents re-examining the facts in civil court.
The court noted that the forensic report confirmed the victim’s permanent disability of 60%, including disfigurement, limited movement, and psychological trauma. Based on these findings, the court awarded BD 45,000 for material damages and BD 5,000 for emotional distress.
The court ordered the two defendants to pay the total amount of BD 50,000 along with legal costs and attorney fees.
