HM King Hamad Calls for Swift Action on Bahrain–Saudi Mega Causeway
His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has instructed the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications to accelerate progress on the highly anticipated King Hamad Causeway project.
The proposed causeway will run parallel to the existing King Fahd Causeway and aims to strengthen connectivity between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Spanning approximately 25 kilometers, the new route is designed to support passenger vehicles, freight transport, and trains—both passenger and cargo—easing congestion on the current bridge and boosting regional trade and mobility.
The project is estimated to cost around $5 billion and is expected to play a vital role in the broader Gulf Railway network, which seeks to link GCC countries by rail.
HM King Hamad’s directive highlights Bahrain’s commitment to advancing strategic infrastructure projects that deepen regional cooperation and improve transportation for future generations.
