A high-level delegation from the Kingdom of Bahrain, led by His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, has concluded a successful participation in the 2025 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
During the forum’s main plenary session, His Highness Shaikh Nasser delivered a keynote speech and took part in a high-level panel discussion alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, and South African Deputy President Paul Mashatile. His Highness highlighted Bahrain’s forward-looking economic development strategy and shared insights into the kingdom’s open and dynamic investment climate.
This year marked Bahrain’s special participation as a Guest of Honour at the 28th edition of the forum — a recognition that reflects the deepening ties between Bahrain and Russia. The occasion also saw the signing of six Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at boosting cooperation across key sectors such as customs, energy, media, tourism, and trade.
Key Agreements Signed:
Customs cooperation MoU between the governments of Bahrain and the Russian Federation.
MoU on fuel and energy technologies between Bahrain’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce and Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Media and IT cooperation between Bahrain’s Ministry of Information and Russia’s Novosti Television.
News agency partnership between Bahrain News Agency (BNA) and RIA Novosti.
A tourism and events MoU between the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) and Aeroclub of Russia.
Trade facilitation agreement between Export Bahrain and the Russian Export Center.
The Bahraini delegation also presented Bahrain’s competitive edge as a regional business hub and emphasized the kingdom’s readiness to foster closer trade and investment ties. Bahraini officials held bilateral meetings with Russian counterparts to explore future collaborations, highlighting Bahrain’s strategic vision of becoming a gateway for Russian investment into the GCC and Middle East markets.
Ministerial Highlights:
Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Daina, Minister of Oil and Environment, joined a session on the global energy market, where he shared Bahrain’s efforts toward a balanced and sustainable energy mix.
Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, Minister of Industry and Commerce, emphasized Bahrain’s support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) during a panel on national development strategies and took part in the Russia–Bahrain Business Dialogue.
Sara Buhiji, CEO of BTEA, participated in a panel discussing tourism workforce development, underlining Bahrain’s investment in human capital and international cooperation in the hospitality sector.
Additionally, Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, joined a thought-provoking panel on cultural heritage and identity titled “Architecture of Memory.”
Bahrain’s participation in SPIEF 2025 not only strengthened its bilateral ties with Russia but also laid the groundwork for future economic growth, innovation, and international partnerships. The forum highlighted Bahrain’s ambition to position itself as a regional leader in sustainable development, cultural diplomacy, and global investment.
