One of Bahrain’s most treasured landmarks is about to undergo a remarkable transformation. The Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture has joined forces with Edamah, the real estate arm of Mumtalakat, Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund, to reimagine and redevelop the historic Manama Central Market.
This strategic alliance was sealed through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by H.E. Eng. Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, and Sheikh Abdulla bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, CEO of Mumtalakat and Chairman of Edamah. Also attending the signing were top government officials and development leaders, all gathered with a shared vision: to breathe new life into the heart of the capital.
Once a bustling hub of trade and culture, the Manama Central Market has long been a cornerstone of community life. Now, with this forward-looking partnership, the site is poised for a complete revival—one that blends modern functionality with the market’s deep-rooted heritage.
“The market’s location is more than just central—it’s symbolic,” said Minister Al Mubarak. “It represents our commercial legacy and holds untapped potential for economic growth. This initiative allows us to bring that potential to life while ensuring sustainable returns for Bahrain.”
The MoU sets the stage for a comprehensive development plan that will turn the existing site into a thriving space for business, culture, and community interaction. From updated infrastructure to dynamic retail zones, the new market is envisioned as a catalyst for urban revitalization and economic expansion.
Sheikh Abdulla bin Khalifa Al Khalifa described the project as a turning point. “This agreement goes beyond construction; it’s about building opportunity. It reflects our commitment to meaningful partnerships that drive Bahrain’s long-term development goals.”
Eng. Saleh Taradah, Chairman of the Capital Trustees Board, echoed this excitement, emphasizing the project’s potential to redefine the cityscape. “With Edamah’s proven expertise and innovative spirit, we’re confident this market will not only serve today’s needs but also pave the way for tomorrow’s urban ambitions.”
As Bahrain steps into a future defined by smart development and sustainable growth, the Manama Central Market stands ready to become more than just a place to shop—it’s set to become a destination, a symbol of progress, and a bold new landmark for generations to come.
