St. Petersburg, Russia – Professor Marike Paulsson, Secretary General of the Council for International Dispute Resolution of the Kingdom of Bahrain, delivered the closing remarks as Guest of Honour at the 13th St. Petersburg International Legal Forum, reaffirming Bahrain’s growing leadership in the field of international arbitration.
The forum, organised by the Russian Council for the Improvement of Arbitration Proceedings under the auspices of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, hosted a special session titled “Open Meeting of the Council for the Improvement of Arbitration Proceedings.” The event gathered a distinguished panel of experts, including representatives from the Russian Chamber of Commerce, the Chair of the Bar of Corporate Lawyers, and international speakers from Hong Kong, Cairo, and Dubai.
During the session, participants discussed the development of a proposed regional centre for investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS). The initiative aims to establish a modern, transparent framework for resolving investment disputes, featuring a diverse administrative structure, comprehensive panels of arbitrators and conciliators, and an efficient secretariat to support flexible global trade and investment.
In her closing remarks, Professor Paulsson underscored Bahrain’s readiness to host and support foreign arbitration institutions seeking neutral venues for resolving international disputes. She highlighted the Kingdom’s stable legal infrastructure, impartial judiciary, and longstanding commitment to the rule of law, positioning Bahrain as an ideal destination for international arbitration.
“This initiative reflects the shared vision of advancing international cooperation in dispute resolution. Bahrain is not only prepared to support this goal but is actively shaping the future of investor and commercial arbitration on a global scale,” she said.
The participation of Professor Paulsson marks another step in the Council for International Dispute Resolution’s ongoing efforts to elevate Bahrain’s presence in the global arbitration community. It also reflects the Kingdom’s broader commitment to sustainable economic development through legal innovation, stability, and international collaboration.
The St. Petersburg International Legal Forum continues to serve as a major platform for legal dialogue and policymaking, bringing together influential voices from the public and private sectors to address the evolving challenges and opportunities in international law.
