Three out of four Bahrainis aged 20 and above who were out of work in 2024 were women, according to figures published on the kingdom’s open data platform.

Of the 15,683 jobseekers in this age group, 11,763 were female. The overall count of unemployed persons aged 15 and older stood at 17,402.

Within this number, 1,719 were below the age of 20, and 5,324 were aged between 20 and 24.

The figures also show that most of those looking for work held degrees.

Just under 60 per cent had at least a bachelor’s qualification. Some 10,241 unemployed persons held a bachelor’s degree, while 83 had a master’s. One woman held a doctorate.

There were 924 jobseekers with post-secondary diplomas, making up a little over five per cent.

Those whose highest qualification was secondary school or something like it numbered 4,640, or around 27 per cent. Among university graduates, nearly 84 per cent of those without work were women, and that amounted to 8,597.

The same pattern held at postgraduate level, with 65 per cent of unemployed master’s holders being women.
