A 12,223 square metre plot in Dumistan, just half a kilometre from the existing beach, has been set aside for future public use, the Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, His Excellency Wael Al Mubarak, has confirmed.

The land lies in Block 1017 and falls under the ministry’s control.

It has already been reclaimed and is now expected to feature in the government’s next set of projects aimed at improving public facilities.

The announcement came in a written reply to the Northern Municipal Council which had previously asked for part of the current beach to be acquired and turned into a permanent coastal park.

The earlier request stalled due to lack of funds for land acquisition.

Instead, the ministry has identified an alternative parcel nearby that sidesteps the need for new purchases.

The new location sits only 500 metres from the site residents had originally requested.

Zainab Al Durazi, Northern Municipal Council member, welcomed the response and said it shows movement on a long-standing issue raised by locals.
