Plans to cut the Bahrain Chamber for Dispute Resolution’s (BCDR) claim threshold to BD100,000 have raised concern from the government, which warned the change could overload the chamber and lead to delays rather than faster outcomes.

The proposal, passed on by Parliament and drafted as a bill by the Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission, would amend Article 9 of Decree-Law No. 30 of 2009.

If enacted, the BCDR would be required to hear all disputes above BD100,000. The current limit is BD500,000.

Purpose According to the government, existing arrangements already serve the purpose of resolving commercial and financial disputes without delay. Recent reforms have shortened timelines across the judiciary. The BCDR, like the courts, works to a 60-day timetable for handling cases.
