Bothered by roaring engines and the stink of diesel outside their windows, councillors in the south have called for lorries to be cleared from residential streets and parked on land set aside well away from family homes.

Councillors have agreed to write to the Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, urging the ministry to find land in every governorate where trucks can be parked away from homes.

The decision follows growing complaints from residents fed up with rumbling engines, thick dust, and the stench of diesel near their doorsteps.

Ali Abdulhamid Al Shaikh, who represents the Eighth Constituency, said: “Local and foreign trucks are being left for days in residential areas and public spaces, causing traffic build-up and disturbing families. I’m proposing that land be set aside for truck parking, with service buildings in place and clear rules. A small charge can go back to the state.”

Site visits

The council carried out site visits in the Eighth Constituency, joined by inspectors from the ministries of works, commerce, and transportation.

They found trucks parked metres from front doors, in narrow lanes and on verges, creating hazards and constant disruption.

Residents have raised repeated complaints, calling for the vehicles to be moved and for proper spaces to be made available elsewhere.

Councillors say the plan is in line with Bahrain’s long-term plans for improving roads and transport.
