Bahrainis can now register online to donate 11 organs, thanks to a newly introduced system that simplifies the process.

This initiative allows them to pledge various organs and tissues, including a kidney, part of their liver, bone marrow, heart, lungs, intestines, pancreas, corneas, bones, tissues, or heart valves.

The expansion of the Waman Ahyaha programme aims to make the process easier and provide doctors with a live donor database.

The service, available on the national portal, is open to citizens and residents who meet the criteria.

Applicants must hold a valid personal number, be at least 21 years old, and have full legal capacity.

Decision

The decision to donate cannot be made by family members on behalf of a living individual.

Users can log in with the basic eKey or the advanced eKey 2.0 and complete an electronic form specifying which organs they intend to donate.

Once the form is submitted, officials will contact the applicant to complete the necessary steps.

Partnership

The programme, developed in partnership between the Ministry of Health and the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA), is part of wider efforts to improve medical services.

The online system provides a structured way for people to register and track their application status, with requests categorised as Under Processing, Approved, Rejected and Cancelled, Pending Declaration Approval, or Awaiting Health Evaluation.

Authorities aim to build a well-maintained donor list and improve response times in medical emergencies.
