A total of 8,300 trees now line Shaikh Hamad Avenue in Hamad Town, part of a sweeping plan to transform Bahrain’s urban landscape.
According to Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary for Municipal Affairs, the tree planting project spans 18 kilometres and is moving into its third phase. With another 2,500 trees soon to be added, the total will rise to 10,800.
Shaikh Mohammed disclosed this during a tour of the site with Engineer Lamya Al Fadhala, Director General of the Northern Municipality, alongside other officials who came to observe the work in progress.
The ministry, he said, is pressing ahead with its National Afforestation Strategy, working alongside other agencies to meet environmental goals.
This initiative aims to increase green spaces, boost biodiversity, and establish projects that support Bahrain’s broader development plans.
A further expansion of tree planting across intersections and public roads in the kingdom’s governorates is also in the works, according to the Undersecretary.
